I enjoy spending time with family and friends we like to spend time outdoors, going bowling, going to paint classes, and other activities. When we travel we make it a point to visit look out points and just be outdoors as much as possible. I am a introvert at heart, however when playing sport and games I have a competitive extrovert spirit about myself. My favorite sport to play is volleyball, which I played for five years. I also enjoy playing is ultimate frisbee, shooting hoops, kickball and occasionally kicking a soccer ball around. I played most of these sports growing up in youth and others I played with friends. Aside from sports I also enjoy card games such as nertz, spoons (or what we called ropes because we didn't have spoons so we played with ropes), game of things, uno, and many more. I loved putting puzzles together, I started off with the 300, 500, and 750 piece puzzles. But as I got older, I started putting the 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzles together. My family was always fascinated watching me because I would sit for hours and put a puzzle together. And when I wanted a challenge, I would put the puzzle together face down so I couldn't see the picture. Puzzles for me helped me to relax and clear my mind, unfortunately I don't do the much anymore being in college, so listening to music is how I clear my head. I enjoy watching videos on step-by-step drawings and following along, even drawing what I see because it helps me improve my sketching techniques and it is similar for the paintings. My family likes to go to those painting classes where you follow along and paint. However, I am a perfectionist when it comes to art, but I learn to appreciate it in the end.
In high school I did my best to focus on my grades, so I could play volleyball and participate in track & field. My freshmen year of HS I was nominated to be apart of the Leadership High School program for a week over the summer. This program had roughly 10-15 students from each of the four high schools in the district who were chosen. That same year one of my teachers nominated me to be in the Intro to Engineering Program. I ended up continuing pursuing the engineering program throughout the rest of my years in high school. In a way it sparked my passion for programming and designing. I am a visual hands-on learner and I tend to pick things up fairly quickly, so I enjoy learning new things. Anything that I can visually do and watch be done I can learn fairly quick. For example, I managed to learn how to pole vault my freshmen year for track & field, I had no experience whatsoever and I did fairly well at the district meet. In high school I was also in PALS (Peer Assistant & Leadership Students), and an NHS student member.
When I graduated high school, I provided childcare/nannied while I attended community college. When I attended a bible school for a year and a half, I assisted the Event Coordinator and was also a Core Advisor for handful of girls. After bible school I came home, and I became a Co-Youth Leader at my church. As a leader I managed putting together activities, fundraisers, and a lesson. Leading youth, while in college, and nannying was difficult, but I managed. I have been told I am a natural born leader, by many people. I those people have provided me with opportunities to grow in my leadership skills whether it was nannying, assisting, and/or mentoring teenagers and young adults.
Transferring to the UH and being a part of the College of Architecture & Design came a whole new journey. I commute so it made it difficult to continue working as a nanny during the semester to I provided childcare throughout the summer on occasion. I did manage to keep up with co-leading the youth for the most part, up until recently. But I am proud to say I am wrapping up my fifth year, expecting to graduate in May 2024. I have overcome many obstacles, and I continue to strive to end each semester better than the last. I'm looking forward to pursing my career as a designer and getting hands on experience, while in my last semester at UH CoAD. Even though I don't have much work experience I know how to put in work, time and effort. I strive to succeed not just so I won't let my team down, but so I can continue improving myself as a person.
